Alexandra was born in Darmstadt and married to Nicolas II, the last tsar before the Russian Revolution. Therefore, Nicolas II had a Russian Orthodox church built in 1897 so that he could still go to mass on holiday at his mother-in-law's house in Darmstadt. The remarkable thing about it is that he had soil brought from Russia by train, as if German soil was not good enough. A very beautiful building, indeed. Little is known about his mother-in-law.

Het bijzondere eraan is dat hij per trein grond liet aanvoeren uit Rusland, alsof de Duitse grond niet goed genoeg was. Wel een zeer mooi gebouw. Over zijn schoonmoeder is weinig bekend.
